Monday Morning Progress Post One Week From Skin Graft

Hello MC supporters and followers,

Mike (as you can see) is up in the trees now with a beautiful view and his easy chair by the window.  It's made a huge difference in how he feels during the day.  On Sunday (yesterday) I went to the beach with my daughter for a much needed breath of fresh air and some sand between my toes.  Feeling refreshed now and ready for more time with Mike at Hotel Legacy.  Are they suppose to operate at Hotels?  And shouldn't the room service menu be a little more exciting?

Today marks the end of the 10th week since the accident.  Mike has come a long ways.  It's been a real roller coaster with all the surgeries and set backs.  It's felt like two steps forward, 3 or 4 back most of the time.  But today he is looking and feeling a little stronger.  He's moving in and out of bed easier and spending time in his easy chair.  He hasn't had a real shower in weeks now, and we hear it will be a few more.

Sunday MC had a lot of visitors.  I wish I had been here to get photos and to see how much he must have enjoyed everyone coming by.  I hear there were 9 folks in all that rolled in and out.  I know he loves the company and really enjoys knowing that everyone out there is thinking of him.  His days are long...

Here is how MC's Monday Dr. Frome skin graft check went.

It has been exactly one week since the skin graft surgery and this is the first look Dr. Frome and Just Craig have given the foot / flap.

Here is the undressing of the flap.  For the rest of the week there will be daily dressing change.  This will continue until surgery with Dr. Gellman next Monday.  Monday's surgery will be for the insertion of the wires into the heel bone.

Looks like Dr. Frome is tightening the screws.  She is not.

Yes the flap looks large and swollen and basically "not quite right".  The way things look today according to Dr. Frome, is very good.  95% of the skin graft took.  The flap will change looks from week to week before deciding what it will do.  The bottom line is, Dr. Frome said "this is what we had to do so you could "walk" on your foot again".

Yesterday's PT got MC doing sit-ups in bed and all sorts of leg lifts.  He was loving the fact that he is "using" some of those muscles that have been on vacation for the past 10 weeks.   Mike is getting closer to being able to add weight to his foot.  His knee and femur is healed and now it's time to start adding weight to the leg and start stretching the the knee joint.

It was so great for so many of the local friends that came by to see MC this past weekend.  He needs the company and he needs to know how YOU are doing.  He's feeling a little out of touch with reality and hearing about "your world" will help.  Come on by!

SB & MC out for now.
